In value terms, welded netting production expanded significantly to $203M in 2024 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the production volume increased by 333% against the previous year. Welded netting production peaked at $216M in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2024, purchases abroad of welded grill, netting and fencing, not classified in hs was finally on the rise to reach 28K tons for the first time since 2020, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2013 to 2024: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 42K tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2024, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, welded netting imports totaled $51M in 2024. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a notable increase from 2013 to 2024: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, imports decreased by -11.0% against 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $66M in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2024, imports remained at a lower figure.

Belgium (5.1K tons), Italy (5.1K tons) and France (3.2K tons) were the main suppliers of welded netting imports to the UK, with a combined 54% share of total imports. China, Turkey, Poland, the United Arab Emirates and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +88.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($10M), Belgium ($7.8M) and France ($6.8M) appeared to be the largest welded netting suppliers to the UK, together comprising 50% of total imports. China, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Poland and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

Among the main suppliers, Turkey, with a CAGR of +73.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average welded netting import price stood at $1,839 per ton in 2024, declining by -8.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 35%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $2,024 per ton in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In 2024, the product with the highest price was iron or steel wire; grill, netting and fencing, welded at the intersection, n.e.s. in item no. 7314.20, (other than plated or coated with zinc) ($1,865 per ton), while the price for iron or steel wire; grill, netting and fencing, welded at the intersection, n.e.s. in item no. 7314.20, plated or coated with zinc totaled $1,796 per ton.

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by iron or steel wire; grill, netting and fencing, welded at the intersection, n.e.s. in item no. 7314.20, (other than plated or coated with zinc) (+0.7%).

In 2023, the average welded netting import price amounted to $2,015 per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period from 2013 to 2023, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,024 per ton in 2022, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($4,388 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($1,536 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, exports, however, recorded a noticeable curtailment. The exports peaked at 20K tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2024, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, welded netting exports skyrocketed to $31M in 2024. In general, total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2013 to 2024: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, exports increased by +61.4% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Ireland (3.2K tons) was the main destination for welded netting exports from the UK, with a 40% share of total exports. Moreover, welded netting exports to Ireland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sweden (968 tons), threefold. Norway (894 tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2013 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of volume to Ireland stood at +2.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (+13.1% per year) and Norway (-7.7% per year).

In value terms, Ireland ($10M) remains the key foreign market for welded grill, netting and fencing, not classified in hs exports from the UK, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($2.3M), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Norway, with a 9.4% share.

From 2013 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of value to Ireland totaled +9.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (+17.0% per year) and Norway (+0.4% per year).

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: iron or steel wire; grill, netting and fencing, welded at the intersection, n.e.s. in item no. 7314.20, plated or coated with zinc (+6.3%).

The average welded netting export price stood at $2,903 per ton in 2023, falling by -8.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $3,158 per ton in 2022, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($3,532 per ton), while the average price for exports to Falkland Islands (Malvinas) ($1,324 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kuwait (+13.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
